Best in Travel 2011: free for download in the iBookstore

Jane NethercoteLonely Planet author

We’re almost halfway through 2011. You’ve got three weeks’ holiday up your sleeve, but you need inspiration to finally book that trip. What to do?

We’ve got your back. Lonely Planet has just made our best-selling Best in Travel 2011 available for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. Better still, from 31 May until 14 June IT’S FREE. Sorry to shout at you but we didn’t want you to miss that salient point.

Best in Travel is a decision-making bible or, as Famous once wrote, a book that will ‘help get you off your bum and start the adventure of a lifetime.’ Browse through our experts’ top 10 cities, countries and regions for the year. Then get going with our travel lists: the best value destinations for 2011, best secret beaches, best vampire spotting locales and many more. Plus there’s a calendar so you can plan where to go when. Why aren’t you downloading already?

Oh hang on. Some of other popular titles - The Travel Book (take a tour of every country in the world on your iPad) and Lonely Planet’s Guide to Travel Photography – are also now available on the iBookstore. Best in Travel 2012 is also available on pre-order so you can get inspired early for next year’s travel.

In fact, Lonely Planet is starting to build a world of apps on Apple, from audio walking tours and city guides for your iPhone to a growing shelf of ebooks. Get started here.

PS. If you don’t have iBooks on your Apple device yet, download version 1.2 from the App Store so you can get started.

PPS. The Best in Travel 2011 ebook is only available in countries with iBookstore (though you can still get the hardcopy version from anywhere in the world).

And the Android version is going to be released also??? We don’t all want or use an apple device! But we’d really like access to read this book. Please.

Thanks for the question cosmicsummer. It isn’t available in New Zealand for now.

The Best in Travel ebook is available in all countries where Apple has a paid iBookstore ie. Canada, France, Germany, United Kingdom, United States and Australia. Other countries may have iBookstores but they only currently offer free out-of-copyright titles.

If you’re looking for travel inspiration, we’ve got a list of the top 10 cities from Best in Travel on our website (http://www.lonelyplanet.com/usa/new-york-city/travel-tips-and-articles/76165) and the best value destinations for 2011 (http://www.lonelyplanet.com/argentina/travel-tips-and-articles/76216).
