bahmanToday we’ve launched a new beta Groups tool that lets people with shared travel interests gather in one spot, connect and start a conversation.

This first version of Groups allows participants to post messages, share photos and comment on both. It also allows travellers to add useful applications to their group, such as a reading list or itinerary generator. We’ll be inviting the developer community to create cool and useful applications for you, and if you’re a developer yourself, see what you can come up with!

Groups is a beta product, so there are still things that might not quite work right, and there are definitely things we’ll want to add that we haven’t gotten to yet.

Your feedback is important as we grow and evolve this feature, so we encourage you to pass along any feedback you have around bugs, user experience, ideas and suggestions for improvements (we have a lot we’d like to do, but we want to make sure we’re creating things you want to use).

You can join this feedback group, post on the Check in with Lonely Planet branch on Thorn Tree, or send an email to community@lonelyplanet.com

Get in there and have a play: www.lonelyplanet.com/groups

You’ll also notice some basic improvements to your Profiles rolled out today – you can now add a personalised avatar, more information about yourself, and you have the beginnings of an activity stream so others can see what you’ve been up to around lonelyplanet.com.

We look forward to your impressions and ideas.
