Q & A

  • Is there any place that you haven't been to yet that you are dying to visit?

  • South Americcccca!!! But it's so huge it would take at least a couple of trips to see even half of what the continent has to offer. I'm dying to go to Patagonia, Rio Carnival, Machu Picchu, Iguazu Falls, the Amazon…the list goes on…there's just so much to experience there. Oh and I'd love to go to the Maldives before they disappear…

  • What's the most unexpected local encounter you have had on your travels?

  • There have been many but I'd have to say the most unexpected encounter was during my summer as a camp counselor in America. I was looking for sticks in the woods near our bunk when I came face to face with…a skunk. Now these animals are notorious for excreting the most putrid, lingering spray as a defense mechanism. All I knew is that I did NOT want to be on the receiving end and have to take 10 baths in tomato ketchup - apparently that's the only remedy to get rid of the nasty smell! Being the sensible, rational person that I am, I chose not to stay calm and still, but pegged it as fast as I could back to the bunk. I'd managed to evade being sprayed but moments later a pungent scent wafted through the air, reminding me of my close encounter…

  • Which national cuisine most represents your personality and why?

  • Oooh that's a good one. I'd have to say Thai cuisine - it's a little bit sweet, a little bit spicy, with a sprinkle of nuttiness and it can pack a punch ;)

  • Finish this sentence: The biggest surprise people have when they meet me is…

  • that I'm not 25 ha ha!

  • When you were a child what did you want to be when you grew up?

  • I was obsessed with the Nancy Drew books when I was little so I wanted to be a super sleuth and solve mysteries…there just weren't very many in the town where I lived!

  • Have you ever fallen in love with a destination, or in a destination?

  • Paris Paris Paris! It may sound like a cliché but there's just something about Paris that keeps drawing you back. I was lucky enough to live there as a student for a year, right in the heart of the 5th arrondissement (the Latin Quarter). You can walk for hours and find a treasure around every corner, from a cute little patisserie selling the best strawberry tarts, to kids beatboxing and breakdancing on the street - it's a wonderful juxtaposition of old and new. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
