Tourists should be on their guard in southern Benin, which suffers from the crimes normally associated with tourism.
Muggings are a real danger on Cotonou’s shoreline, even during the day. At night, take a taxi if you want to travel in Cotonou, and in Ouidah avoid the roads to and along the coast.
