Lonely Planet review
Live out your wildest Peter Pan fantasies at this unique and remote 160-acre property surrounded by Mennonite farms and a protected jungle tapir reserve. The dream-brought-to-life of Jim and Jacquelyn Britt (with the help of many generations of volunteers), the 160-sq-ft outpost sits on a bend of Barton Creek considered one of the best swimming holes in all of Belize (there's even a rope swing). Catering primarily to adventure travelers, the Britts offer camping spots, a bunkhouse and one beautiful thatched- roof cabana with a king-size bed. All in all, the outpost offers a wonderful, family-friendly and low-priced base from which to explore the surrounding caves, ruins and jungles.

Description
Barton Creek Outpost is nestled in the foothills of Belize's Mountain Pine Ridge and on the outskirts of an Old World Mennonite community near San Ignacio in western Belize. The most common word we hear to describe the Outpost is Paradise. You can rent tents, sleeping bags and even thick, foam pads to put between you and the ground. There are plenty of creek-side hammocks, a small book exchange, excellent bird watching and scenic botanical gardens.
If you are seeking some adventure we offer guided and unguided jungle hikes, night hikes as well as trips to remote swimming holes, waterfalls, Maya ruins, horseback riding, river canoeing and cave exploring. Whether you work up an appetite on an adventure or in a hammock you will always be impressed by the excellent home cooked meals we serve three times a day.
Come see why the Lonely Planet Guidebook said, 'The sort of place you visit for a day and stay for a week.' and named Barton Creek Outpost as one of the Top 5 'Highlights Of Belize'!!!
