Travel from Caye Caulker to Cancun

HI--We Will be leaving Caye Caulker at the end of our trip and flying out of Cancun. Is it reasonable to get to Cancun in 8-10 hours via water taxi and bus?

Also, we haven't been to Caulker and it looks like the beaches there aren't great, except for the Cut? We're interested in snorkeling and hanging out on great sandy beaches, will we be disappointed with 5 days in Caye Caulker? Thanks!

Caye Caulker, the Gap

How does one come from the inhabited ,busy Southern part of CC and across the Gap to the Northern part?Obviously one can use a kayak or canoo but with a suitcase or backpack it is not really an option! I had booked a hotel there but since I haven't been able to find out how to get across I have cancelled it and booked a room in the village instead!(That's what I wanted from the beginning)
I'm just curious now!

NYE in Belize

Hi there,

My friend and I will be spending New Years Eve in Belize - we can't wait!! It is our first trip to the country and we will be arriving around the 28th Dec (via Tikal and San Ingnacio) and following a couple of weeks in Guatemala . We are thinking of maybe heading to Placencia for the festivities and as a base to explore other areas. Has anyone spent NYE in Placencia - or elsewhere in Belize? We are not looking, and don't expect, any major night life or parties - but we are sociable…

One week in Belize: stay in Hopkins or move around?

Hi all,

My husband and I are heading to Belize around Christmas for the first time - the tricky part is that we only have one week... With this limited time, I don't want to overplan it, but would still like us to see and do a variety of things Belize has to offer. We are nature lovers, and great snorkeling appeals to us as much as a waterfall hike with wildlife-watching. So far, I like what I read about Hopkins - would it make sense to make it our base for a week and take our sea and inland…

Crystal Auto Rentals

Has anyone recently rented a car from Crystal Auto Rentals and driven to Tikal? If so, how was the experience? My husband is pushing for a rental, buy I'm a bit nervous about driving on our own to Tikal. We'll be in the San Ignacio area around Nov. 23 - 28, with one night at Tikal.

Storing valuables while swimming/snorkeling

I've read some of the past posts about what people do to keep their valuables safe while swimming/snorkeling, etc, but am still not sure what the best option would be.
-Would it generally be safe in Belize to store valuables at the tour operator's office if you are taking a day-trip with them to go snorkeling? Do they even provide this service? (Are there lockers or anything like that?)
-Or would it be a better option to check these things in at a hotel reception (I understand that some places…

Changing money at Belize International Airport

Does anyone know if there is a reliable ATM at the Belize International Airport? If so, how does the exchange rate there compare with the rate you would get if you changed money at an ATM in Belize City?

Thanks for your help!

Water taxi from Chetumal to Caye Caulker, has anyone purchased online tickets?

Hello all! I've read tons of reviews and posts about the water taxis Chetumal to Caye Caulker but no one seems to have purchased the tickets online from them. Can anyone share their experience?

I really feel I need to do this, we are flying to Cancun December 20th, taking the ADO bus from Playa to Chetumal very early on Dec 21st to catch the boat to Caye Caulker. It is Xmas so busy season... I have an expensive dive trip planned for the very next day plus our accommodation booked but most of…
