    Bad Experience

    Treat MAYAWALK TOURS with great caution! After researching Tikal carefully, we negotiated by email with MAYAWALK for a private tour of Tikal and Flores so we could visit sites of special interest to us. We agreed to a steep price increase over the advertized rate (from US$130 to US$205 each), paid a large deposit and were then assured of a completely private tour. On the morning of the tour, after having paid the rest of the price when asked we were told that two other people were also on our tour. We were given a lot of excuses and assured that the tour would follow our itinerary. In fact the guide spent much more time with the other two and did not take us to the places we had requested – he just gave us the standard tour. The included lunch was at the worst restaurant in the area. We subsequently discovered that other operators would have provided a truly private tour for nearly half the MAYAWALK price. So take great caution! The next day we took a private tour with Pacz – it was all we had agreed on and more. After our return home, our complaints about MAYAWALK to the Minister of the Belize government Tourist Bureau were acknowledged, then ignored.
