Lonely Planet review for Gran Kaffee De Passage

A mix of regulars and travellers staying at the adjoining hostel, Passage, give this candlelit, alternative Art Deco-styled bistro one of the best atmospheres in town. Its menu of hearty traditional dishes, such as stoverij (local meat in beer sauce) as well as filling tofu creations, is a bargain.

    I wouldn't recommend it

    marie854 does not recommend this,

For atmosphere you're fine here, but I like good food. We had the meatstew with fries and some salad. The meat was not succulent but utterly tasteless and dry, it had a distinct warmed over flavour. The fries were mealy, disappointing when you know how good Belgian fries can be. I asked for cappuccino and got coffee with whipped cream, which I know passes for cappuccino sometimes there. When I asked the waittress whether they could do some hot milk she shook her head wordlessly and backed away. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone I like. Instead I would recommend brasserie Cambrinus in the Philipstockstraat, where we had good food and a good atmosphere as well.
