Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Mechelen (20 minute train ride from Brussels) – 10km
In the afternoon, check into your barge hotel, your home for the next seven nights. After checking in there’s time for a cycle in and around Mechelen before retiring to your barge for dinner and overnight accommodation.
Day 2 Return train to Brussels (no cycling)
Early this morning we take the train to visit the Belgian capital. There will be a short walking tour in the centre and some time to visit the highlights. We recommend you try one of the culinary specialties: mussels with french fries & mayonnaise, Belgian chocolate and some of the best waffles in the world. In the early afternoon you return via train to the port town of Antwerp on the river Scheldt. The visit to this town is without doubt one of the highlights of the trip. This evening you will partake in a special beer tasting, sampling some of the renowned blends during a beer seminar in a typical Belgian Bar.
Day 3 In Antwerp (no cycling)
This is a free day to visit the town of Antwerp. The tour leader will take you on a short walking tour and there will be time to visit Rubens House, do some shopping or relax at a sidewalk café. The barge sails across the Belgian border to the peninsula of Tholen in Zeeland.
Day 4 To Willemstad (45km)
Today you will cycle to the well preserved fortified town of Willemstad, strategically situated at the convergence of several waterways. This 16th century town possesses a highly unique feature – it’s fortification in the shape of a seven pointed star, each point of which is named after one of the seven provinces which comprised the Netherlands at the time of its construction.
Day 5 To Hertogenbosch (45 km)
By barge we leave for Geertruidenberg where you mount your bike for a diverse trip to the old town Hertogenbosch. A visit to the St. Jans Cathedral is worthwhile, it is said to be the most beautiful in the country.
Day 6 To Vianen (40 km)
Sail across the area between the rivers Maas en Waal, to the town of Tiel. The cycling trip leads through Holland’s fruit garden, the Betuwe. Here you start pedalling across some fine Dutch landscapes and visit the town of Wijk bij Duurstede. The cycle ends in the small town of Vianen, nicely situated on the river Lek.
Day 7 To Amsterdam (30km)
Your barge takes you to Breukelen, where you disembark. From here you make the last cycling stretch: enjoy the rural sceneries of tiny villages at the banks of small and winding rivers that show the way to the Dutch capital Amsterdam. In the evening you have the possibility to take a short guided city walk and a round trip of the Amsterdam canals.
Day 8 Trip concludes Amsterdam
The trip concludes after breakfast.
