Lonely Planet review for À la Mort Subite

Floor-to-ceiling square columns with brass hat-racks, massive mirrors, varnished timber panelling and leather banquettes make this a sublime place to try the namesake Mort Subite (Sudden Death) gueuze. If this twice-fermented beer is too sour for your taste, order a kriek (cherry) or framboise (raspberry) version. Soak it up with old-school snacks like omelettes for under €10.

    In a word, Horrible.

    shoeempress does not recommend this,

We stopped in mid afternoon for a drink and a snack. The place was virtually empty, yet the waiter managed to ignore us. Eventually he did saunter over, and as we ordered our waiter proceeded to correct my Husband's French. Not too surprising, but my Husband is bilingual and speaks with a perfect Parisian accent. Ok, rude, but whatever. When our salads arrived, we dared to ask for Napkins, our waiter refused to provide them. Now we were in totally unacceptable behavior. And at that point he vanished. Hard to do in a virtually empty room. Eventually he deigned to reappear and eventually brought us the check. The beer was good, but you can get the same beers in a lot of other bars. Don't waste your time in this place unless you are a masochist.
