My weekend trip to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, taking a stroll in the Old City, enjoying some tasty Azeri Plov turşu qovurma at Restoran Qazmaq, marvelling at the very modern architecture of the Heydar Aliyev Center and visiting the bubbling mud volcanoes of Qobustan:

I searched information about this before I left home, bit didn't find much. Perhaps this will help someone.

  1. Uzbekistan: Embassy in Badamdar (part of Baku) is not easy to find. If you don't take a taxi, bus 53 passes nearby. Get off at the bus stop just under the power line at the level of the high TV-tower. Walk 50 m back and take the small street that you just passed on your right.
The embassy is open to receive visa applications on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 am till 12 noon…

I am looking for the easiest/cheapest way to obtain an Azeri Visa (transit or tourist visa) while travelling in Georgia. My plan is to enter Azerbaijan overland from the north (from Dagestan, Russia - already have Russian visa). Pls advise:

1) how long would it take?
2) how much would it cost?
3) what kind of documents do I need: outbound flight, hotel booking, LOI, etc?

BTW have a EU passport.

Thsnk you in advance!!

Just a heads up for other travellers (and the Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan Lonely Planet writers). We (3 young English guys) recently followed the suggested hike in the 2016 guidebook in the Zaqatala section, labelled a high alpine trek. We found the trail and followed it fairly easily. It was a great walk, with incredible views at the top, however things got more difficult when we got down the hill.

Perhaps unluckily, we bumped into a couple of Azeri soldiers, who demanded our passports and…

Last weeks many news were made about easing the visa procedures, and how it will work through Asan Viza system... but I can't find anywhere their website in order to apply for e-visa. Do you know whether it is already operating and, if not, when it is going to start?

We recently visited Baku for one day in transit. We arrived at about 8am by train, and left that evening at 10pm by air.

We had a driver pick us up at the train station, and we spent the morning on a half-day trip to Gobustan (petroglyphs and mud volcanoes). We then spent the afternoon walking around and exploring the city of Baku on our own. Then, our driver took us to the airport.

Our driver was great. His name is Kanan, and his phone number is (removed). He has a clean, new car and was a…

A quick write-up of the Russian-Azeri border situation. I found information on the crossing scarce when researching the trip, with the exception of this board, so I thought I would return the favor.

Some background. I’m an American on vacation in Azerbaijan. I decided to do a day trip over the Russian border, coming back later in the evening. I speak just a little Russian and no Azeri.

Visas
I have a multi-entry tourist visa for Russia, which doesn’t require permission or supporting documents…

Hello everyone!

I was wondering, is there a way (aside from a taxi or a rented car) to go from Quba to Lahic or Gebele without going back to Baku?

Thank you very much for your help!

Hello,

Is it possible to go to Xinaliq and Lahic on a two day tour from Baku with a rented car? Any idea about the price?

If not: Can we easily convince a taxi driver in Baku to take us on a two day tour to Xinaliq, overnight in XInaliq and what might be a fair price for this?

Travel agency prices seem exaggerated - and public transport will probably not work due to our very limited time.

Also interested in any other suggestions for our 3-day stopover in Baku!

Thanks!

Hello all, I wanted to get your opinion on if I would be able to enter Azerbajian as I am of Armenian descent but have a Canadian passport. My last name ends in IAN. Will they allow me in because I am a Canadian or will they deny me because of my last name?

Thanks

Steve
