Former Kriegsministerium information
Today occupied by federal ministries, the former Kriegsministerium (Imperial War Ministry) is a rather austere military building from 1913. It makes an interesting contrast to Otto Wagner’s quirky Postsparkasse directly opposite. Wagner in fact pitched for the project but his plans were knocked back for not meeting the criteria. In the end, an extra floor had to be added to Ludwig Bauman’s design to support the hideously overdimensional eagle adorning the facade.
