Lonely Planet review for Figlmüller

Vienna, and the Viennese, would simply be at a loss without Figlmüller. This famous Beisl has some of the biggest – and best – schnitzels in the business. Sure, the rural decor is contrived for its inner-city location, and beer isn’t served (only wine from the owner’s own vineyard), but it’s a fun Viennese eating experience and one you won’t find anywhere else in the world.

    “Terrible tourist trap - there are better places in Vienna"

    We found this restaurant, as recommended by Lonely Planet. Unfortunately, all the other tourists had found it too and Figlmueller 1 was completely overbooked. We went one block the other side of the Figlmueller 2 restaurants, which also was full, but however, we got a table.
    Waiters were busy, because of the crowd. Almost all were eating wiener schnitzel, which were so large that no longer fit plates. Our food was nothing to complain, but it was not anything special eitherl - you're no longer hungry :-)
    The waiter was rude, but what else you can wait, in the latter tourist trap.

    There are better places in Vienna for the "Original Wiener Schnitzel" and "Tafelspitz", try "Plachuta" (www.plachuta.at) or the little hidden gem we found the other day "Der Kuckuck" (www.derkuckuck.com).

    Good for: tourists

    Not good for: a romantic date

    The schnitzel is definitely the best in the town and I have tried it in a few places in Vienna and none compare. Try the potato salad its delicious!

    Very nice atmosphere and excellent tastes.. The famous schnitzel lived up to our expectations. Booking a table seems to be necessary and I recomend the restaurant on Wolzeille.

    Best Schnitzel in town!

    A trip to Vienna wouldn't be complete without having a Wiener Schnitzel and this is the best place to have it. At Figlmuller the Schnitzel's are the size of your plate and their potato salad is a superb side dish to accompany the Schnitzel.

    The restaurant has a great atmosphere and is always bustling with tourists and locals alike. Be warned though the place is very popular and often at weekends there are long queues outside. Your best bet is to avoid queuing is go in and book during the morning then spend the day site seeing.
