    Café Der Provinz

A charming little café near the Piaristenkirche, Café der Provinz brings a touch of France to Vienna. Choose from sweet crepes, served with the likes of Nutella, chocolate, or honey, or sour galettes (buckwheat crepes, cooked on one side only) complemented by ham, cheese or egg. It's a sweet spot any time of the year - inside in winter it's warm and cosy and outside in summer the streetside seating is cool and breezy.

  2. B

    Restaurant Bauer

This intimate, exquisite French restaurant serves from a small, seasonal menu and has the relaxed style of a French noble bistro. The patron, Walter Bauer, and the chef de cuisine, Tommy Möbius – both celebrated figures on the Austrian restaurant scene – complement French styles with broader influences from Mediterranean countries such as Spain. Delicious pigeon breast can feature on the menu here.

    Aubergine

Aubergine greets you with its namesake, a delicate slither of salted, marinated eggplant to whet the appetite. After that it leads you into a culinary wonderland that might include Kalbsbeuschel, thin slices of offal accompanied by snails and garnished with snail caviar for €16.80 (snail caviar is less salty than sturgeon caviar and doesn’t explode as easily when you bite on it). Plenty of delicate meats and accompaniments also feature on the menu. The wine list is mammoth – about 800 bottled Austrian wines. Reserve for an evening table.
