Not partaking of a Vienna schnitzel whilst in Vienna is almost tatamount to sacrilege and should you decide to try Zu Den Zwei Liesln, you will not be disappointed nor go hungry.

The Lady and I visited the restaurant on a cold winters' Monday night and the place was packed to the rafters. A pleasant and attentive waiter suggested we dine in a heated tent out the back. The court-yard was inviting, however, lacked the cosy atmosphere of the restaurant proper, so we waited for 15 minutes or so until a table became available.

There were plenty of choices on the menu and the Lady decided on the corden bleu schnitzel and I opted for the Haus schnitzel. In virtually no time at all, I was presented with a massive schnitzel that covered the whole plate and a bit more as well and I am pleased to report that quality was not foresaken for quality. The schnitzel was tastefully cooked all the way through and the accompanying potato salad with a hint of onion was exquisite. It is easy to see why the haus schnitzel is so popular. The worst thing about my schnitzel was that it is so big that I could not finish it. I politely declined the waiter's offer of a "doggy bag", however, we noted that a lot of the locals did not.

There were no complaints from the Lady as she tucked into her somewhat smaller but still substantial corden bleu schnitzel stuffed with ham and cheese which was cooked to perfection.  

Mains from around 8 to 12 euros represent good value and certainly are crowd pleasers and will not break the bank. A glass of reisling was the perfect accompaniment to the meal, however, a local beer would have done the job just as well.

Service was prompt, attentive and unobtrusive and all round 5 star effort for food, service and atmosphere. 

The Zu Den Zwei Liesln has been around for decades and there is no reason why it won't be around for decades more if the current high standards are maintained.
