Winter in Europe: Christmas Markets
Blog: UnpoppedCollar - 19 December 2009
Winter in Los Angeles means temperatures occasionally drop below 70. Winter in Europe means cold, snow, and more cold. So why would I spend my winter break in Europe instead of LA? Well, it wasn’t the weather. My first international trip ever took place during winter break a few years back, as two of my best friends and I grabbed our backpacks and took off from hostel to hostel from mid-December until New Years’ Day.

MUMOK in Vienna
Blog: Atlas Parasite - 1 December 2009
Autumn has arrived in full and has brought the rain with it. And that’s exactly what I had when I went to Vienna a couple of weeks ago: rain, lots and lots of rain. Because of that I had to change my plans in order to spend more time indoors than outdoors. Not a problem [...]Rating: 0.0/10 (0 votes cast)

Last Friday, I wrote a guest post for the wonderful Europe a la Carte blog about Vienna’s Christmas markets. In the article I listed a few of the markets. I haven’t seen them all yet - and the one at Spittelberg features high on my to-see list. It looks very cosy there in the narrow [...]

Salzburg and Ljubljana -July 23rd, 2009. So a quick stop at breakfast – usually YHA usually do damn good breakkys, but this one is disappointing. Utterly shit. So I head off to media markt to buy a camera. And then leave salzburg for greener pastures. I head to the HBF and get on a train to Ljubljana [...]

Riding the Rails in Europe
Blog: Nomadic Matt's Travel Site - 13 November 2009
One of the highlights of my recent trip to Europe was all the train travel I did. Using my Eurail pass, I rode across the continent through the amazing scenery. In the past, I had done limited train travel but, usually my travel plans are always random, so I typically jet set around Europe on [...]

sturm, entschuldigung and clowns…oh, my!
Blog: What Up, Vienna - 28 October 2009
Have we talked about Sturm here yet? I wasn't made aware of it's existence until my first night in Vienna. I refuse to consult Wikipedia right now because I'm in Hawaii and I'm lazy so I'm just going to tell you what I think I know about Sturm. It is a very young, yeasty wine [...] Related posts:vienna is auf dem tisch A few months before we moved to Vienna, Alex and...

vienna is auf dem tisch
Blog: What Up, Vienna - 15 October 2009
A few months before we moved to Vienna, Alex and I both decided to start learning German. We both had our own methods. I bought a few "How to Learn German" books online. And Alex bought the German-language first book of Harry Potter. He is still about five pages into said book.

Blog: What Up, Vienna - 8 October 2009
First, I just want to say a little something about living your life in another country amongst another language. Living in Vienna seems much like how it would be if you were recovering from a massive stroke. Stay with me, here. You're trapped inside your head.

Saturday Guest Post: A Von Trapp Vacation
Blog: Atlas Parasite - 12 September 2009
Submitted by: Chiara Atik New York, New York Growing up, I had one dream. I wanted to go to Salzburg. Actually, it would probably be more accurate to say that I wanted to wake up one morning as the 8th Von Trapp child in “The Sound Of Music”, and it would preferably be the morning that Maria takes [...]Rating: 8.0/10 (1 vote cast)

An Alpine Adventure

Another 4 hours sleep was last night’s count. I must be acclimatised to it now though as I don’t even feel that bad, it could prove to be a useful skill. The average man sleeps for 194,821 hours during his lifetime Not me, you can skim a cool 84 thousand off of that. I’m just on [...]

Oh, Vienna
Blog: Send The Bugger Back - 27 August 2009
Today we’ve just been trundling around Vienna and I’ve been quite impressed with the city. It’s full of huge statues and buildings that are very grand and laced with opulence. It’s quite frustrating to not have a proper camera, the iPhone is okay for a few snaps but the res is low and there [...]

7 best museums for torture and genocide
Blog: 99 + 1 countries - 25 August 2009
1. Kriminalmuseum, Große Sperlgasse 24, Vienna, AustriaThis small private crime museum hides one true gem in its basement: A drawing dating back to the Middle Ages that displays the most extraordinary method of torturing women in the otherwise rather repetitive tradition of hunting witches. The drawing represents a chair that combines the best of electric chair and toilet seat engineering, used to holding suspected witches fast while lighting up their pubic hair.

Blog: Rice and Rock Concerts - 22 August 2009
Three weeks ago I arrived in London weary and excited, and that’s where I pick up this blog from. I envy travel writers that must make such perfect diary entries be it scrawled on a blank piece of newspaper, on a napkin at a restaurant, or neatly in their little laptop sitting on the cafe table. Mozart Madness and Public Transport in Vienna

In Vienna, you can find Mozart in every imagination incarnation – keyrings, mousepads, tissues and chocolate balls.
