The Alps rise dramatically behind this terracotta-hued guesthouse, a 15-minute stroll from the Altstadt along the Inn River. The family go out of their way to make you feel welcome with tips on exploring Innsbruck, tidy rooms and hearty breakfasts.
Flanked by wooded slopes, Heimgartl is a 19th-century guesthouse that resembles a witch's house with its pointed roof and blushing bricks. As well as handing out maps and info on Innsbruck, the affable Karpitschka family will happily post letters and store luggage for you. Rooms are simple but neat with comfy beds, fluffy down pillows and homey touches like pot plants. The quiet location means you're pretty much guaranteed a sound night's sleep. A delicious breakfast - try the tangy berries with yoghurt - is served in the pine dining room, where heart-carved chairs add Tyrolean charm. Free parking is available.
