Klagenfurt

Museum sights in Klagenfurt

  1. A

    Landesmuseum Rudolfinum

This museum has lots on natural and cultural history, often organised around themes; Celtic and classical objects and jewellery, and the multimedia ‘Glocknerrama’ – an acoustic and visual simulation that leads you to the peak of Austria’s highest mountain – are highlights. Its Lindwurmschädel (dragon skull; located in the room next to the relief of the Hohe Tauern) was found in the 14th century and became the model for the head of Klagenfurt’s central fountain.

  2. Eboard Museum

With the largest collection of keyboard instruments in Europe (over 1300), this quirky new museum will definitely appeal to anyone who loves music. It’s literally a ‘fingers-on’ museum: you can play most of the organs, which includes rare items like a Model A Hammond from 1934, a Hohner Clavinet model, which Stevie Wonder still uses today, and many more. Live bands perform on Friday nights at 8pm.
