    Sissy was the nickname of the Kaiserin Elisabeth, unhappy wife of Emperor Franz Josef, and her pictures hang on the walls of this popular riverside bar/café. You can breakfast here, lunch or dine on a Wiener schnitzel and other simple fare, or simply nighthawk at the front-room bar till the midnight hour.

    Situated 2.5km southeast of the centre in the lush Rettenbach Valley, this restaurant in a former mill alongside a gurgling stream is a relaxing place to enjoy some regional and Austrian classics on a warm day in the garden. To get here, take Grazer Strasse from the Goldener Ochs Hotel and after the B145 turn left into Rosenkranzgasse/Rettenbachtalbezirksstrasse. A taxi is easiest if you don’t have your own wheels.

The Seerestaurant (kitchen open all day, mains €12.50 to €19) tempts with regional and international dishes, while the Romantik has à la carte dining (dinner only, mains €25 to €31) and an exceptional six-course menu for €56.50.
