Lonely Planet review for Pferdeschwemme

Stroll left to reach Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz and the Pferdeschwemme10, a rather elaborate drinking spot for the archbishops’ mounts. Created in 1700, this is a horse-lover’s delight, with rearing equine pin-ups surrounding Michael Bernhard Mandl’s statue of a horse tamer.

A must for history buffs and horse lovers alike!

    salsa_girl recommends this,

This fountain was on my list of things to see while in Salzburg and I was so thankful that it was pointed out to us during our Sound of Music Tour. It is a lovely fountain where the archbishops' horses were watered and bathed before being stabled across the street. The fountain is surrounded by large frescoes where horses are depicted at play. I highly recommend this site to anyone and especially to fellow horse lovers.
