    A great opportunity to see Salzburg and the surrounding area

    We took this tour with Panorama tours. Our hotel made all the reservations for us and arranged for pickup at our hotel the morning of the tour. The tour was advertised as being conducted in mini-buses. I was a bit taken aback when we arrived at Mirabell Square and were directed to a large tour bus that was packed with hordes of people. My mother and I were not even able to sit next to one another. Fortunately, the tour was overbooked and they asked for volunteers to take a later tour. We ended up in a mini-bus with just one other family, which was much more to my liking.

    Our tour guide was wonderful! She was able to point out notable places that related to the Sound of Music, as well as sites important to the history of Salzburg and the stories behind them. I feel that we received a much more personalized tour than those on the big bus. I strongly believe that this is one of the best ways to see Salzburg and the surrounding area. The lake district was stunning!

    While stopping for lunch in the quaint and picturesque town of Mondsee, I highly recommend that you walk down the street and find one of the local bakeries. I think you will find that a sandwich or pastry will be much more satisfying than the flippant service and mediocre food you will find at the tourist friendly restaurants in the area.
