Gallo
This trendy bistro-cum-bar jazzes up its minimalist interior with zebra stripes and mosaics. When the sun shines, diners spill out onto the terrace for antipasti, juicy steaks and wood-fired pizza.

San Giorgio
This Italian restaurant by the lake has eat-in (inside or in the garden) and takeaway food. The bar-disco downstairs, the Zwolfer Alm Bar (open from 9pm), claims to be the oldest nightclub in Austria (it was founded in 1930) and hosts lots of sponsored events.

Pizza Mari’
The kitchen in this pizza restaurant closes between 2.30pm and 6pm, the choice of pizza isn’t enormous and (oddly for a pizza restaurant) it never uses anchovies – they’re the downsides. The rest is good: Pizza Mari’ serves some of the best pizzas this side of the canal, the inexpensive salads as side dishes are fresh and Mari’ has a friendly, comfortable feel that makes you feel at home.

Il Sole
The wood-fired pizza at this authentic trattoria is delicious. The smiley Italian owner starred on the German TV series DasTraumschiff (Love Boat), and the evidence is plastered all over the walls in the entrance.
