Getting there & away
Freistadt is on a direct rail route from Linz (€7.70, one hour, hourly). This line then wriggles its way north to Prague; Czech rail fares are lower than those in Austria, so you can save money by waiting and buying (in Czech currency) your onward tickets once you’ve crossed the border.
Highway 125, the main route to and from Linz, runs adjacent to the walled centre and then continues its way northwards towards Prague.
