Sleeping in a tent in Oz

I'm going to Oz in 3 days! I'm taking my tent and sleeping bag. I'm trying to keep costs down by pitching my tent everywhere I go. In Central America, many hostels allowed people to do it in the yard for a low cost of using the facilities. Neither of my guidebooks are really saying anything to that. Is this a common thing? Do I just ask when I get there? HELP!!!

Tasmania 5 days / 6 nights - what would you do?

We have 4 full days in Tasmania, not including travel days, flying into/out of Hobart, in March. What would be the best way to spend our time? We'll hire a car for the duration of our time there, presuming that's the best way to get about. From the geography I presume it's best not to stay in one place for the whole trip, but I'm unsure if we should split it between Hobart / Launceston, or a different place each night, or something else?

We like sightseeing (museums / national parks /…

2 free days, should I stay in Brisbane?

Everyone says not to visit Brisbane, but my award ticket for a trip goes into that airport and I have 2.5 days until my hotel reservation in Sydney (with plenty of time in Sydney).

Should I stay in Brisbane, go somewhere nearby, or fly somewhere? I have pretty normal tourist interests, including cities, country, nature, etc.

The days I have free are Christmas day and the day after if that changes things.

Meteors tonight

People in SE Oz will be able to get front-row seats to one of this weekend's most startling shows - the Geminds meteor shower.

The annual event of pea-sized pieces of cosmic rock lighting up the night sky will occur on Saturday and Sunday night, when the shower hits the earth's atmosphere.

Sydney Observatory's astronomy curator Andrew Jacob told Fairfax Media that 11pm would be the best time for people to view the show, looking towards the north-east.

"It's best to view with the naked eye…

Noosa for New Year's Eve?

Hi,

I will be in Noosa over the New Years period, there are three of us in our twenties. Where are the best places to go for New Year's Eve? Do you have to book somewhere and is it expensive? Or would it be better to stay at our hostel?

Thank you!

Darwin to Perth in Feb/March

Hey guys, I will be in Darwin on 26.February 2015 and from there I want to hitchhike to Perth in the span of 5 weeks with the biggest emphasis on visiting Kakadu NP and Karijini NP plus some beautiful seaside along the way. Low budget travelling, camping wild and living simple life is the way to go. No stress! I'm looking for a travel partner to share the road with me as everything is more fun in 2 (and more!). If you have any questions, feel free to ask :)

Happy travels and see you on the…

AUSTRALIA 2015 / MARCH TIME

Hi guys,

I'm looking into going to Australia around March time flying from the UK for (hopefully) a year!
I am going to be traveling solo for the first time so I'm quite nervous!
I already have my WHV but haven't booked any flights, accommodation etc yet.
I have no set plans but I'm looking into going sometime in March to travel down (or up) the east Coast whilst working to support my funds along the way.

I have absolutely no idea where to start or where is best to start around this time...
