Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort
Lonely Planet review
The new beachside Dolphin Lodge at Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort offers spotless functional accommodation for both ends of the market, but while the backpackers represents great value for the wonderful location, the more expensive 'Dolphin Units' offer little other than sublime beach views.
Dolphin Lodge is suffering an identity crisis, with more expensive seafront motel rooms sharing walls with cheaper backpacker dorms. We know who has the better deal! While the hostel facilities are great value - there's an excellent communal kitchen and lots of outdoor seating, internet kiosks and a laundry - the motel rooms don't offer much value at all. The basic rooms have a TV, fridge, and tea/coffee facilities, but little more, not even a phone - so if you need anything, you've a long way to walk to reception. This is a high price to pay for a balcony/terrace with sea views, particularly as you'll be spending most of your time outdoors. Save your money: take a picnic blanket and bottle of something down to the sand for sunset. The Lodge's Monkey Bar is also popular for drinks and delicious light meals.
