Lonely Planet review
Hostels are hard to come by in this country but ‘The Box’ has been doing it for years, with a rep as one of Windhoek’s wildest backpackers. It has a fully stocked bar and swimming pool to cool off in, and travellers have a tough time leaving this oasis of affordable luxury. If you do decide to motivate yourself the city centre is just a short walk away, and the excellent on-site Travel Shop gives useful information and can help sort out your future travel plans. Rates include free coffee and pancakes in the morning and there are free pickups from the Intercape bus stop.

Description provided by property
Windhoek's oldest and most popular backpackers accommodation, offers accommodation in dormitories and private rooms, as well as a bar and restaurantThe Cardboard Box was started in 1992 due to a combination of factors, the most important of which was the need for beer money. Over the years the hostel has metamorphised from a small 12 bed backpackers hostel into its present state. The Cardboard Box is Windhoek (and Namibia's) oldest and biggest backpackers hostel, we have beds for 45 people and camping space for about 20 campers. The hostel is Namibian owned and managed, this is a rare occurence in the backpacking industry in Namibia. Although we have grown considerably from the early days we still strive to give the same warm and personal Namibian service that made us the most popular place to stay in Windhoek. If you're planning to visit Windhoek and Namibia the 'Box is definately the place to stay!
