Subiaco Hotel
The Subi’s a local favourite and the institution of choice for a morning coffee with the papers or a pre-footy beer. It’s popular, too, for a Sunday sundowner or an afternoon of quiet beverages and people-watching.

Wild West Saloon
For an anthropological experience, the front bar at the Exchange Hotel provides a window into some locals’ lives at all hours of the day, with skimpies, TV sports and mine workers furiously refuelling.

Tides Garden Bar
The Mangrove Resort's casual outdoor bar is just the place for a few early-evening beverages while contemplating Roebuck Bay. There're good bistro meals, half-price oysters between 5.30pm and 6.30pm, and live music towards the end of the week, including touring big names. You don't need to move to watch the Staircase to the Moon.

Clever artsy types tap their toes to delicious alternative pop in this bar named after a typeface and specialising in whisky and cocktails. The entry is off Howard St: look for the chandelier in the lane behind Andaluz tapas bar.

Ezra Pound
Down a much graffitied lane leading off William St, Ezra Pound is favoured by Northbridge's bohemian set.

Elba
Elba has taken its street name as inspiration and produced a slick little Napoleonic bar complete with sparkly chandeliers and a gilt-framed portrait of the little man. Come dressed for cocktails, although perhaps in flats out of deference. Napoleon St is one of the shopping streets running off the Stirling Hwy.
