About to undergo a multi-million dollar face lift, a few idiosyncratic features already distinguish this hotel: an enormous swimming pool presided over by a majestic old boab tree (said to be 120 years old), an authentic Irish bar that gets jam-packed with travellers on Tuesday and Friday nights... and a resident owl!
By the time you check in, the comfortable, spacious, modern rooms here will have undergone a contemporary makeover. The result should be a resort that is more Broome-looking rather than 'international', with corrugated iron walls (known locally as 'mini orb'), verandahs and lattice. The rejuvenated bathrooms will feature rain showers and the suites will have spas and kitchenettes added. More wheelchair-friendly rooms will be added, too. The expansive tropical gardens are being landscaped to incorporate Balinese elements, but thankfully the beautiful swimming pool, big boab tree (with resident owl), fish-cleaning facilities, and communal barbecue area are staying. Breakfasts are also excellent here. There's an expansive hot and cold buffet served up in the Conti Bar and Bistro, a favourite haunt of airline crews in the evenings.
