From a prominent bald spur above Great Ocean Rd, this B&B has sweeping Southern Ocean views that any artist would die for. It's a traditional homestead with neatly kept rooms in 1930s country style. Single-night stays are welcomed - stick around for mid-morning Devonshire Tea.
People in the 1930s must have been generically short if the low ceilings and door heads at this rustic B&B are any gauge. Purpose-built as guesthouse accommodation in 1938, the six bedrooms feature cast-iron beds frames, cow-hide rugs, creaky floorboards and an eclectic collection of bedside lamps from sundry decades. Rooms open onto a full-width veranda, both upstairs and down, from which the Southern Ocean scene is hard to fault. 50m from the house there's a fantastic edge-of-the-world BBQ gazebo where the land falls away to the sea. Char some chicken wings over the flames and sip some local vino - the pure privilege of being in this special part of the planet is impossible to ignore. Below the property are gnarly waves for experienced surfers, plus occasionally passing whales, seals and porpoises. Devonshire Teas are served from 11:00 to 16:30, Friday to Wednesday.
