I'm traveling Dallas - Sydney - Christchurch, NZ with Qantas next month, and recently found out I'll have to pay extra to select my seats before the 24-hour check-in time. I'll be by myself so luckily it's not important to find two or more seats together, but I do have a high preference for a window seat so I can sleep more comfortably. Has anyone waited and found that there are plenty of seats available online 24 hours before check-in? Or were there very few seats to choose from by then?

Hi there,

I am a 24 yr old female and will be going to Australia in December for 24 days. This is my first solo/backpacking trip. I will be traveling the east coast going from Cairns to Sydney for 2 weeks and then staying in Sydney for a week. I want to bring a backpack since I will be picking up and moving almost every day for the first 2 weeks. Plus I think I just want to have that backpacking feel to the trip. Others think I should bring a luggage on wheels because I have a bad back but I…

I am UK citizen on an extended trip in South East Asia/Australasia. I am currently in Papua New Guinea. From here, I will be flying to Cairns, Australia by Qantas (operated by Qantas Link). I have already applied for and received my Visa Grant letter from the Australian Immigration through their online eVisitor system.

Question: Will I have to have a return/onward ticket before the airline will let me board the plane to AU?

I ask this because starting with my flight from Taipei to Manila with…

Hello everyone,

I move to Australia on the 31st August and plan to stay and work for around 3-4 months. Most of my friends who are in Australia have signed their tax papers as "resident for tax purposes."

It has come to my knowledge that if you stay on Australia for under 183 days (6 months), you are not classed as a resident for tax purposes.
Hence my problem...

If I signed up as resident for tax purposes and then left after 4 months, will I then owe tax up to the 32.5% rate?

Do you HAVE to…

My family (2 adults, 9 year old twins and baby) is planning a trip to Australia in March 2017. My sister-in-law and her family live there and we've visited them in their past two locations and had wonderful trips.

This time they are in Bunbury, south of Perth. We generally take 3 weeks. I am curious if anyone has any suggestions for great activities for a family along the Great Australian Bight - or a farmstay in the Southwest of the country. Some ideas I had on the coast were a spot we could…

Dear All, I really really need your help!

I am from Vienna, Austria in Europe. My mom always wanted to go to Australia, but there was never eiter the time nor the money. For her 60th birthday, we want to surprise her with an Australia trip.
Money is not a big factor, but still, the cheaper, the better :)

The last days I have been spending watching travel documentaries, comparing prices and talking to people, but I am still clueless on which would be the best route for us (I will be going with…

Just been booking some accommodation for my trip up to N Qld. I generally stay at YHA as they suit me but I've booked at the Townsville YHA and since then I've noticed that they have not had ANY reviews. This must be a new Hostel because on investigation it is not in the 2016 Accommodation guide.
Can anyone advise about the parking their as they indicate parking on their web site and I asked to reserve parking on my booking but not heard back from the hostel (except the booking confirmation).

Hey everyone,

a friend of mine and I will be heading towards Australia on a working holiday visa in about 6-8 weeks.
Unlike a lot of other travellers our focus will be on working in order to save up some money.
Can anyone of you guys recommend an area that offers decent working possibilities while being affordable?
We would like to stay away from the bigger cities in order to cut down on living expenses.

Hi guys!

I´m planning a trip to Australia during next summer (haven´t defined the exact month yet!). My initial idea is to only visit New South Wales, Canberra and Lord Howe Island. I´m needing some advice in order to work out my itinerary and decide how much time should I spend in each place:

Sydney
Blue Mountains
Gosford
Newcastle
Ilawarra (Wollongong or Shellharbour?)
Jervis Bay Region (Huskisson and Vincentia?)
Port Macquarie
Byron Bay
South Coast (any recommendation?)
Canberra
Lord Howe Island

Do…
