I'm planning on checking out the Great Barrier Reef area sometime in June. I'm not very knowledgeable on the world of diving. I tried looking up info on the kinds of activities people usually do in the area but it was muddled with travel packages. Basically I just want to know:

What are the advantages of getting PADI certified before I go?
What activities can I do if I'm not PADI certified?

Any help or background knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated!

Planning a road trip of 3 days from Bellingen to Capertree National Park, which is accessed via Bylong Valley Way to Rylestone and then Glen Alice Rd to Kandos. Never been that route before, Google Maps suggests 2 routes that we are interested in, via Armidale & Tamworth and then Mudgee, or alternatively Musselbrook. We are in a sedan so would prefer tarmac in reasonable condition. Anybody have any suggestions as to the best scenic route and also suggested sights on the way? Also quiet hotels…

We're looking into booking this thing which is about £400 for transfers, hostel for a week, a week of activities etc is it worth it? Anything would be appreciated, thanks

My husband and I shall be arriving in Adelaide on 1st December, departing on 16th January and we obviously want to see as much as possible during our short stay in Australia. We shall be hiring a camper van for part of our trip but would also use air, train or coach travel wherever necessary.. Ideally we would like to visit Uluru, Alice Springs, Melbourne, Sydney (there for New Year's Eve), Barrier Reef and Port Douglas. Are we being too ambitious to trying to visit all of these and do them…

I often see alot of posts on forums asking about meeting people in Australia to travel with and things to do whilst traveling in Australia. A great way to start or meet people on your trip could be by doing a Dive Internship from the Whitsundays. It offers the opportunity to meet meet people from all over the world whilst learning something new in the exciting industry of tourism. Never dived before no problem, but leave as a Dive Master. Check out reef Safari Diving and Photography on…

Hi, we are traveling to Australia in July with 2 kids and are planning to do Sydney and Cairns. We have a few days in between and wanted to spend time in Fraser Island and/or Cairns. We are arriving into Brisbane from Cairns and have 4 days including the day of arrival (we get it at 8am in the morning, so have the entire day) and leave from Coffs Harbour to Sydney on the 5th day. We were wondering if we should fly from Brisbane to Hervey Bay immediately and then ferry onto Fraser Island and…

I may be visiting Australia in the fall and am pretty bummed about all the coral bleaching that happened earlier this year. I've seen a few maps like this...

...and I'm guessing there are still a number of sites out there still in good condition. But it also sounds like on the whole the reef is not doing well, especially up north where a lot of the best sites are. Anybody been out diving this year? Would I be missing out on much if I…

I am hoping to take my two grand-daughters, 15 and 12, to Darwin in the school holidays this June. I haven't been there for at least 12 years and things will have changed. If possible I would like to stay where we could walk to cafes, restaurants, and a few places of interest such as the harbour, nice walks, art gallery, park/playground etc. They will probably need a pool. In case we decide to take the ferry to the Tiwi Islands, is the trip likely to be rough? I took them to the outer reef from…
