The arid ranges of Australia offer some of the finest walking and cycling anywhere in the world. The combination of spectacular peaks, rugged gorges and the rich colors of the desert offer trekkers an unforgettable experience. The Flinders Ranges of South Australia are regarded as perhaps the most spectacular of all the arid mountain ranges. We have selected some of the best sections of the Mawson Trail in the Flinders Ranges and combined it with a selection of farm stay accommodation. This exclusive trip balances challenge and discovery in the outback with relaxation.

Itinerary
Day 1 Riesling Trail, Clare Valley and Mt Remarkable (37km)
We pick you up from your accommodation in Adelaide between 7:00 and 7:30am, driving north to one of Australia's premier wine growing regions,the picturesque Clare Valley. We cycle along a historic railway line on the Riesling Trail arriving at Knappstein winery - a chance to try some of the regions finest wine followed by a picnic lunch in the peaceful gardens. In the afternoon we will explore the back roads into Melrose, the oldest town in the Flinders Ranges with time to go on a short walk, or mountain bike in the foothills of Mt Remarkable. Day 2 Cycle to Rawnsley Park (45km)
Drive From Melrose into the heart of the Flinders Ranges. This morning we ride the Morlana scenic route between the bases of the Wilpena and Elder ranges. Grand views are a theme of the day. A loop of Rawnsley Park Station brings us into our accommodation in the Cabins at Rawnsley Park.
Day 3 Rawnsley Park to Willow Springs (73km)
This is a challenging day for those who seek to push themselves a little, a few big climbs give very rewarding views. If you wish to take it easy there are options to jump back on the bus at certain locations along the route. Half way along today’s route is a small detour of 2km to see aboriginal rock art in sacred canyon. The afternoon ride will takes us past Appelina Ruins, and into our accommodation in the Shearers Quarters at Willow Springs.
Day 4 Willow Springs to Gum Creek (60km)
Today’s ride takes us to relics of farming history past, the initial stages of this trail are a little tricky but get us into some fantastic country. Old huts now restored are tucked away in this rarely visited part of the Flinders, making a great location for a lunch time picnic! The Afternoon takes us across some open plains country to Gum Creek Station where we are accommodated in the Shearers Quarters
Day 5 Gum creek to Aroona Valley (60km)
Today’s section is by far one of the most scenic. We follow station tracks out to the Mawson trail and the National Park. A detour up Red hill commands stunning views. We pass by many old ruins and Bunyeroo lookout before descending the razorback into Bunyeroo gorge. From here we ride north alongside the ABC and Heysen ranges. We return to our accommodation at Gum Creek.
Day 6 Brachina Gorge and Quorn
Our day starts out with a spectacular ride down the Brachina Gorge Geological trail out onto the plains of Lake Torrens in the west. A short transfer down the highway to the long forgotten Settlement of Wonoka for lunch before jumping back on the bikes for a ride to Warren Gorge. Accommodation in the historic town of Quorn
Day 7 The Dutchman's Stern (10.5km)
We head out for for a morning ride past the base of Dutchman’s Stern. Lunch at a Flinders Ranges institution “The Stone Hut bakery”. Return to Adelaide 4- 5 pm

Accommodation Summary
During the trip you will be experiencing the outback style of accommodation in shearers quarters and farm houses. We will be self sufficient in the accommodation so your participation will be appreciated. The guides will prepare all the meals and run the accommodation, however you will be asked to contribute by making your own beds. Most properties will be twin share, we will not be using bunk dormitories.
Equipment Required
Specialist gear required include cycling clothing and day pack. Some cyclists may choose to bring their own helmet, seat or pedals which can be fitted on arrival. A comprehensive gear list is provided in the pre-departure information provided on booking.
What You Carry
The Mawson Trail Trek is a fully supported, accommodated cycle tour. You will need to carry just a day-pack with your water and other items.You should plan on carrying at least 3 litres of water every day.
