Blog Update: London, Hong Kong and Sydney
Blog: The Amazing Dawdle - 22 December 2009
LondonWe were scheduled to fly into London from Santiago via Madrid Spain at 2pm. As we pulled into the check-in, the agent looked at us and told us that our flight was delayed until 6pm, at least, which meant delays of over four hours. At least we had the lounge to chill out in. Once we landed in Madrid, we had about a half hour to spare (after immigration and navigating their massive train system) before hopping a flight to London. We were lucky enough to have our friend Mel pick us up at the airport, as we were staying with her and her husband and baby.

Our First Day Down Under
Blog: thebeergeek.com - 13 December 2009
Merideth turned 40 this week and she is not really embracing the milestone. Instead of making our normal holiday pilgrimage to Europe, I decided a trip to Australia was what Merideth needed to cure the turning 40 blues. This would be our first beer adventure outside of North America or Europe. The onset of winter in [...]

Indian Pacific 1: Sydney to Broken Hill
Blog: Aerohaveno: A Travel Blog - 4 December 2009
As a wise Australian philosopher once wrote, it’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll. It’s also a long way from Sydney to Perth, especially if you catch the train.

Sculpture by the Sea
Blog: Itinerant Londoner - 1 December 2009
I’ve spent a fair bit of time in Sydney before, so there wasn’t a lot I wanted to see that I hadn’t already. But there was one thing that stood out that I wanted to give a go – the annual sculpture by the sea exhibition. It’s a huge selection of public sculpture, much of [...]

Lady Down Under
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
The Australia portion of my around-the-world adventure went by far too quickly. The overcast skies in the land down under cleared up after Christmas day and the weather was beautiful for the rest of our time in Sydney.

Sydney, Australia
Blog: Patrick and Katrina do the Globe - 30 September 2009
While we were camping in the Outback, Sydney was under siege of dust storms from the Red Center. We got there just as the last of them was blowing in, and then the skies cleared and the sun made Sydney Harbour sparkle.

Free Stuff to do in Sydney
Blog: Nomadic Matt's Travel Site - 27 September 2009
Besides being Australia’s largest city, Sydney is also its most visited. (and, contrary to popular belief, it is not the country’s capital!) Sydney has an incredible variety of attractions and sights to see and, while Sydney can be pricey, its great outdoors, stunning scenery, and a few attractions are free. So when you find yourself [...]

Sydney dust storm images
Blog: MatthewGain.com - 24 September 2009
Waking up and seeing the sky a burnt orange colour is a rather scary prospect. Due to work being stupid busy this week, and needing to be in at the crack of dawn I didn’t take the time to grab my camera and take some shots, but thankfully plenty of others did. Some are below. Lots more [...]

Sydney top 10 on a budget
Blog: A Travel Around the World - 21 September 2009
Sydney is a huge vibrant city but after all it was surprisingly manageable as all major attractions are easily reachable, a large number free and set around its beautiful harbor. It is for certain a great place to dive into the Oozy cultures: great beaches, bars, entertainments, outdoor activities and sunshine, even in ‘winter’ we got a fantastic week of warm and sunny days. Here, what we enjoyed most of it:

Enchanting spots: Sydney Opera House
Blog: velvet escape's blog - 16 September 2009
The Sydney Opera House is one of the most beautiful and unique buildings in the world (in my book). Designed by Jorn Utzon, a Danish architect, the Opera House was built on a spit of land called Bennelong Point that juts into the breathtaking Sydney Harbour. Opened in 1973, the instantly recognisable clam-like structure has [...]

“I’ve been everywhere, man / I’ve been everywhere.” So sings Johnny Cash in his 1960s hit single I’ve Been Everywhere, before going on to give a list of place names that have, erm, nothing to do with the theme of this article. But you get the general idea: since my last post, I’ve been all [...]

Beach fight
Blog: round the world - the other way - 8 May 2009
IMG_0690 Originally uploaded by littlesaint_uk During our time in Melbourne, we noticed that the locals seemed to have a slight obsession with Sydney. It would be fair to argue that this was largely media driven; for example we saw a number of articles in backpacker magazines pitting the two cities against one another (most of these contests [...]
