    cowan to brooklyn

    muddy99 recommends this,

there's a great walk that you can access easily via public transport. Buy a return ticket from sydney to Hawksbury river, but get off one stop early at cowan. Cross the tracks and head north to the bridge over the expressway - this track will take you down to Jerusalem Bay on Pittwater. A nice place for lunch..there's some ruins and you can swim but watch out for oysters on the rocks...continue thru and pick up the track at the far end...this will take you up thru sandstone country that eventually hits a firetrail. follow it north where it goes down hill to an old dam constructed to service the steam trains on the nearby railway. Have another dip. head up the fire trail on the far side of the dam...it ascends again until you turn off onto a small track that heads directly to brooklyn and the hawksbury river station. have some fishnchips then catch the train back to central.
