Replacing the tacky but inexplicably popular Outback Centre, the new $560-million, 1.5-hectare Darling Walk development just might be open by the time you read this. Great things are promised: retail spaces, theatres, offices, kids’ playgrounds, public open space…all adhering to stringent sustainable-energy requirements with a five-star NABERS (www.nabers.com.au) green rating. If it’s not open yet, stick your head over the hoardings and see if you can sniff any greenhouse gases.
