Vietnamese restaurants in Sydney

  1. A

    Red Lantern

At the Cleveland St end of the gourmet mile-and-a-bit that is Crown St, this atmospheric eatery is run by television presenters Luke Nguyen (Luke Nguyen's Vietnam), Mark Jensen (Ready Steady Cook) and sister/wife Pauline Nguyen (author of the excellent Secrets of the Red Lantern cookbook-cum-autobiography). It serves modern takes on classic Vietnamese dishes, and is deservedly popular.

    Chu Bay

It's a little sad to be blowing the cover of this local hideaway, but this wonderful family-run eatery is one of our very favourites. This is an authentically Vietnamese establishment - the pink walls and moving waterfall 'paintings' prove it. The food is always fresh and flavoursome and the service welcoming.

    Xic Lo

Xic Lo’s shiny, angular interior is a glossy departure from the pho houses of yore. The menu, though, is reassuringly familiar: fresh rice-paper rolls, vermicelli salads and piping-hot bowls of aromatic pho (soup with slippery rice noodles, fragrant basil and beef) are the stars.

    Miss Saigon

Yeah, we know, the name is such a cliché, and predictably, the interior design is no great shakes…but the food is fantastic! Kick off proceedings with some barbecue duck rolls, then move right along to the prawn and chicken green pawpaw salad. Beaut soups and vegetarian options, too.
