  1. A

    Ash St Cellar

Part of the sexy new Ivy bar complex, Ash St Cellar is an urbane laneway wine bar that does brilliant tapas. Sit outside if it’s not too gusty, or inside at communal tables and decide which of the 200-plus wines you’ll have with your chorizo and parmesan-crumbed artichokes with mint and lemon. Despite the suits and city-stylers sweeping through, the vibe is relaxed and unhurried – Madrid during siesta.

  2. B

    Firefly

Compact, classy and never snooty. Firefly’s outdoor candlelit tables fill with pre-theatre patrons having a quick meal before the show (the Sydney Theatre is just across the road). Come after 8pm when the audience has taken its seats, then munch some prosciutto-wrapped haloumi and toast the Walsh Bay powerboats with some fine wine. Great cocktails, too.
