Lonely Planet review for Doyles at the Quay

Here is another slick, well-placed branch of the Doyles empire, offering outstanding views of the Sydney Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and Circular Quay in general. On a sunny day, snag a breezy promenade table under a white umbrella and enjoy the massive-portioned (and wallet-emptying) fish and chips - life doesn't get much better than this.

    Doyles at the Quay

Lets face it - Its hard to beat fresh seafood sitting metres away from the water in one of the most beautiful harbours in the world. Doyles at the Quay maintains the high standard that we have expereinced over the years at the Doyles restaurants.

This is one of these special places for an occasion or for a business group where budget is not a problem and you want to impress the client. I would hate to think what Doyle pays in rent for this location and for me I am happy to pay the premium to sit there.

We went early to watch the harbour movement and see the sun go down. The service was professional and friendly - we did not have to wait.

Doyles have always done seafood fairly simply which is a highlight. This place is going to lighten your wallet but hey you only live once.

My husband and I wandered over to Doyles at the Quay on a Tuesday night after a show at the Opera House. It was around 9pm and we had no booking, but they were happy to accomodate us. We ordered the seafood platter which was 3 tiers of lovely, fresh seafood. The view over the Harbour really added to the ambience. My only gripe is that service was very average - we had to go and find a waiter every time we wanted something! They appeared to have forgotten about us although this could be because we were dining so late. Nevertheless, I would definitely go back!
