Lonely Planet review for La Disfida
This humble local pizzeria of 13 years' standing serves decent pasta as well as pizza, but don't even think about it. Head straight for a delicious traditional thin-crust pizza, hot out of the wood-fired oven. It's been rated the best in Sydney, so don't be surprised if you have to wait for a table. The staff aren't renowned for their charm, but the pizza is worth it.

An over-rated pizzeria

I had been reading about La Disfida for ages before I finally got a chance to go...and considering all the hype, I was disappointed. Sure, the pizzas are authentic but they are also totally insubstantial considering how much you are paying for each one. It's fine if you're in Italy and paying a small amount for a basic old-school pizza, but for about $20 in Australia I would expect more; not just a very thin crust with some sauce on top and minimal ingredients. The pizzas were nice but not THAT nice, and certainly not worth going all the way out to Haberfield for, especially if you factor in the service at Il Disfida. I am pretty tolerant of bad manners in waiters but the guy who waited on us was particularly rude. It just added insult to injury.
On another note, there are certainly other Italian places in the area that make delicious and more substantial pizzas. For example, the zucchini flower and cheese pizza I had at Il Goloso left the pizzas I had at Il Disfida for dead!
