Lonely Planet review for Grappa
The culinary highlight of Leichhardt, Grappa has an open kitchen, a snazzy bar and cream leather seats – it’s the setting for rich, succulent dishes (such as baked snapper in a rock-salt crust) and bounteous wood-fired pizzas. If it’s warm, sit outside on the terrace, sip chianti and think of Tuscany. Ahhh, Tuscany…

Outstanding Italian food worth going out of your way for
sheilap recommends this,
Italian food is dominant feature of the Sydney dining scene and is found in eateries throughout the width and breadth of the entire city. Given this, it's surprisingly difficult to find a truly great Italian restaurant that's also good value. Places range from being dodgy pasta that's worse than what you could whip up yourself, to hideously over-priced fare in five star joints. But a real gem that's also a favourite with knowing local Italians is Grappa, which is located at the less frequented end of Norton Street in Leichhardt. The street, and the area, is known for its large amount of Italian restaurants and although there are a number of good places to eat along the street, Grappa is worth going to the end of the street for.
Now, I tend to favour cheap eats and don't eat much at fancy restaurants but I had a special occasion that I wanted to mark. The restaurant has very stylish but inviting decor and the service is first rate - and as for the food - oh, the food! My friends tell me that everything on the menu is good but I was specifically advised to try the degustation menu - and that was definitely a meal worth writing home about on a postcard. For what you get, its a bargain at $75 per head (more with wine). All the courses sat so nicely on my palate and in my stomach, and I particularly liked the yellow fin tuna carpaccio, the fried zucchini flower and the duck pasta. There are five courses on offer though I had six when I was there - a refreshingly tangy lemon sorbet that the chef threw in for good measure, followed by very chocolatey tiramisu.
Grappa is a real highlight on what is already a great eat street in Sydney that's worth travelling out of the city for.
