Lonely Planet review for Bar Reggio

Most of East Sydney’s celebrated Italian restaurants have closed or gone upmarket, but blink-and-you’ll-miss-it Bar Reggio has retained a beautiful budget atmosphere. The walls are plastered with Ferrari flags and Rome murals, and the pasta, pizza, meat and fish dishes have stood the test of time. Closed on Sundays (church!).

Bar Regio doesn’t disappoint (most times)

    aussiestevo recommends this,

Bar Regio is old school Italian food in a retro environment in trendy dining locale of East Sydney. They do a few things particularly well. The pizza here is amazing, while not the best in Sydney, it dose not disappoint. Their pasta and risotto selection is quite diverse catering to non pizza lovers. But be warned any alterations to the meal will result in confusion and usually results in a different item to what is ordered.
The service here is inconsistent ranging from friendly and attentive to slow and rude (it’s the luck of the draw) but this may contribute to its charm.

This restaurant rarely takes bookings and the line up can be pretty epic on any night of the week. That being said this place is always buzzing. The court yard is brilliant for an evening with some friends, pretty decent food and some BYO wine on a balmy summer night.

    Overcrowded is an understatement

    scrypton recommends this,

If you are looking for a place to wind down and enjoy your meals over wine and conversations, then this is not a place for you.

They do have OK pastas, FABULOUS pizzas, but limited seating over those lines of people trying to get a table are a major downturn for some. Unless you arrive before dinner time at around 6pm OR make a reservations, you should expect a long queue.
