    Maroubra Beach

The ‘Bra’ is almost Bondi’s match in the waves department, but its suburban location provides immunity from Bondi’s more pretentious trappings. The notorious Bra Boys gang (documented in the movie Bra Boys by Sunny Abberton) remains entrenched in the community psyche, but don’t let it keep you out of the surf.

    Wylies Baths

On the rocky coast, south of Coogee Beach, this superb seawater pool (1907) is more targeted to swimmers than general beachgoers. After your swim, take a yoga class ($15), enjoy a massage or have a coffee at the kiosk, which has magnificent ocean views.
