Here at the top of Spencer Gulf, you expect quality seafood...
Specialising in pub-style dishes, the Cooinda loves a good theme night (schnitzel, seafood etc). But there's also a few gourmet surprises including the feral mixed grill with venison, emu and 'roo fillet.
Museums & Galleries
The highlight at this combined museum/visitor centre is the 'Tunnel of Time', tracing local Aboriginal and European histories using audio-visual displays, interactive exhibits and a distressingly big snake.
Parks & Gardens
Just north of town, the excellent (and free!) botanic garden has 250 hectares of sand hills, clay flats and desert flora and fauna. Explore on your own, or take a guided tour. There's a cafe here too.
The Homestead Park Pioneer Museum features an original pine-log homestead (1850s) furnished in period style and a well-preserved rail carriage among its exhibits.
Offers lessons and gear rental for kayaking, windsurfing, rock-climbing, abseiling, snorkelling, bushwalking, sailing… Bike hire $55 per day.
A buzzy little cafe on the main street serving salads, quiches, impressive homemade lasagne, baked potatoes and big sandwiches.
