Getting there & away
Two main routes from Adelaide run through the Mid-North. One runs to Gawler then on through Burra to Peterborough. From there you can head west to Port Augusta, northwest to the Flinders Ranges or continue along the Barrier Hwy to Broken Hill in NSW. The second route heads through Port Wakefield and on to Port Augusta on the Spencer Gulf. You can then travel northeast to the Flinders Ranges, southwest to the Eyre Peninsula, north to Alice Springs or west towards the Nullarbor and WA.
Mid-North Passenger Service/Yorke Peninsula Coaches (08-8823 2375) has evening buses departing Adelaide daily for Auburn ($18, 2¼ hours), Clare ($24, 2½ hours) and Peterborough ($34, five hours). Other services include Burra ($24, 3½ hours) on Monday and Friday, Jamestown ($31, 4½ hours) from Tuesday to Sunday, and Orroroo ($37, five hours) on Wednesday and Friday.
Barossa Valley Coaches (08-8564 3022) runs a coach service (aka the school bus) between Gawler and Kapunda ($9, 30 minutes) on weekdays.
