Travel economies in Brisbane

It's been almost forty years since I left Brisbane, so I was wondering about the travel economies I might make as, this time, I leave my car at home. As I'm there for a fortnight, I'm particularly interested in 'frequent traveller'-type opportunities on public transport.

For starters, I presume there's a Skybus-type service from Eagle Farm airport into the city, although I note my accommodation is near Suncorp Stadium (the old Lang Park). As a younger man, I would have walked from the city…

Nimbin: Still worth a visit?

Hello,

I did a day tour to Nimbin from Byron Bay back in 2011. I read that this past August there was a fire and the Rainbow Cafe, Hemp Embassy, and Bringabong were affected. I'm planning on returning to Byron Bay this coming January with a friend who's never been before. I was wondering if anyone has been to Nimbin since the fire or knows anyone who has. If so, is it still worth a visit or did the fire ruin the whole "hippie vibe" that made it worth the trek inland?

Transport to and from the overland track Tasmania

Hi

Myself and friend are heading over to walk the Overland Track in November and tying to figure our the best way to arrange transport to and from the track ideally to and from Hobart. We are looking at maybe hiring a car to leave at Lake St Clair and just need to find transport to get to the start of the track at Cradle Mountain. Best option so far is private transport at $180 AUD pp. Can anyone advise alternative options or anyone else looking to do the same so we can share transport to…

Rant a car in Sydney

We are 4 and coming to Sydney in February 2015 late in the night. Which rental company would you recommend? It should be big enough, something like Toyota camry or similar while we'll take 4 large suitcases. And we'd like not to spend a lot of money. Any experience?

Avoid Europcar car rental

Hi. Recently we have rented a Europcar car for our month holiday in Australia at Sydney airport. Car was OK and served us well and we had returned it without any damage. Yet, that nice Australian branch of Europcar still considered it good idea to peel some extra money from us (fortunately not so much - but them being too greedy could have alarmed my bank) and charged us for special cleaning of the car interior - allegedly it was stained. I am not sure if there were any stains inside - we did…

UK passport expiry in Aus

I have a quick query,

I'm currently planning my travels (SE Asia - Aus) starting in 2015. Im planning on arriving in Aus in December 2015. My passport is due to expire in July 2017.

If Im still in Aus at this time is it easy to renew my passport (UK) or should I renew it before I leave?

Slightly off topic but wasn't sure where to post. Thanks

Jetstar Hotel voucher!

Here is a handy thing to know.

If you book a Jetstar flight not using a name on their system, they send you a $25 hotel voucher.

There is a strong implication that the voucher can only be used by the passenger and at the place they are going to.

However, I booked a flight for a rellie to Tasmania. I got the voucher details as I was the contact email. And I used it for accommodation at Lake Toba in Indonesia!

the only problem is that hotel choices are limited in unusual places.............

new years eve cruise sydney harbour

Hi Guys,
Me and my boyfriend are heading to Sydney for NYE to watch the fireworks. Accommodation is already sorted but we're wanting the best views of the display. My friend is going on a cruise which is costing $440 for BYO drinks. This to me seems quite pricey. Is it worth it? Or are there any cheaper options where we can get great views?
Thanks

Best way to transfer funds between bank accounts

So I am travelling to Australia in November, and I was wondering what the best way to transfer funds from my canadian bank account (I bank with scotiabank if that makes a difference) to an Australian account when I get there, because I really don't want to travel with $5000+ cash. Will an e-transfer work? I asked my bank but they really didn't seem to have a clue (I live in a small town so they probably don't have any experience with that). It would really suck to get to Australia and have $5000…
