Barossa Valley Getting there & around

Getting there & around

There are several routes to the Barossa Valley from Adelaide, with the most direct being via Main North Rd through Elizabeth and Gawler. More picturesque routes go through the Torrens Gorge, then via either Williamstown or Birdwood. If you’re coming from the east and want to tour the wineries before hitting Adelaide, take the scenic route via Springton and Eden Valley to Angaston.

Barossa Valley Coaches (08-8564 3022; www.bvcoach.com) has twice-daily (once on Sunday) return services from Adelaide to Lyndoch ($12, 1½ hours), Tanunda ($13, 1¾ hours), Nuriootpa ($14, two hours) and Angaston ($15, 2¼ hours). Barossa Valley Coaches also runs Dial-A-Ride (08-8564 2212; $5; 10am-4.30pm Mon-Fri), a Tanunda–Nuriootpa–Angaston shuttle service with flexible pick-up and drop-off.

Cycling is a good way to get around the Barossa, particularly along the Para Rd Trail, which wends its way through vineyards. Hire bikes from the Barossa visitor information centre (1300 852 982, 08-8563 0600; www.barossa.com; 66-68 Murray St, Tanunda; half-/full day $19/30) or from your accommodation.

Barossa Valley Taxis (1800 288 294) has a 24-hour service.
