Lonely Planet review for Kaiser Stuhl Conservation Park

The 390-hectare Kaiser Stuhl Conservation Park has some excellent walks. Fantastic views exist from the top of the Barossa Ranges. Abundant native flora, such as banksias, acacias and grevilleas, and birdlife can also be enjoyed. In particular, look out for Nankeen kestrels and brown hawks. Western grey 'roos also bound through this park.

    Stay in Kaiser Stuhl Park

    nigelbruer recommends this,

    Hi all,

I grew up in the Barossa and have stayed many times at Rossiter's Hut, deep (about 3-4km walk) in the Kaiser Stuhl Conservation Park. You'll need a pass from Parks and Wildlife which costs under $10 last time I checked and a code for the padlock on the door (if the lock is still there).

The Hut itself it very basic, but beautiful. the unpowered hut is situated in the middle of pine plantation forest, and perfect for tramping around the park and up the magnificent Kaiser Stuhl (the Highest Hill in the Barossa Valley). Its freezing cold in winter and boiling hot in summer, but still amazing. It has a six wooden bunk cots (no mattresses), a few chairs and a table, with a lovely open fireplace (bear in mind that all fires are prohibited under fire-ban). There's a few cooking implements there last time I checked, but you'll need to bring everything else. There is also a sheltered long-drop dunny.

It really is an amazing place to spend the night.
