Getting around

Public transport

The Adelaide Metro Information Centre (8210 1000; www.adelaidemetro.com.au; cnr King William & Currie Sts; 8am-6pm Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm Sat, 11am-4pm Sun) has timetables and sells tickets for the integrated metropolitan buses, trains and the Glenelg tram. Tickets can also be purchased onboard, at staffed train stations and in delis and newsagents. There are day-trip tickets ($7.20) and two-hour peak ($3.80) and off-peak ($2.30) tickets. Train tickets can be bought from vending machines onboard trains or at staffed train stations. The peak travel time is before 9am and after 3pm. Bee Line and City Loop buses are free.

Wandering Star Service (8210 1000; tickets $6; 12.30am-5am Fri & Sat) will pick you up from designated spots/nightclubs and deliver you to your front door within most city suburbs, including Adelaide Hills, Glenelg and Marion Plaza nightclubs.

New state of the art trams rattle between Moseley Sq (Glenelg) and Victoria Sq (Central Adelaide) approximately every 15 minutes from 6am to 11.50pm. Note there is an ongoing extension of the tram line which will see it continue north up King William St to North Tce, giving access to the Adelaide Railway Terminal.

Suburban trains depart from Adelaide Railway Terminal (8210 1000; North Tce), by the Casino.

The new Bay City Roller (8229 9999; 11am-4pm Mon-Fri, noon-5pm Sat & Sun) is a free Glenelg Loop Bus with stops at various locations around Glenelg including Jetty Rd (near the tram stop). It runs every 15 minutes.

There are licensed taxi ranks all over town, or you can call Adelaide Independent Taxis (13 22 11, for wheelchair users 1300 360 940) or Suburban Taxis (13 10 08).

Bicycle

You can actually hire a bike for free from Bicycle SA (8232 2644; 46 Hurtle Sq) in the city for up to two hours; it’ll cost you $6 per hour after that or $25 per day.

Glenelg Cycles (8294 4741; 754 Anzac Hwy, Glenelg; 9am-5.30pm Mon-Wed & Fri, 9am-8pm Thu, 9am-4pm Sat) hires out bikes for $30 per day.
