Lonely Planet review for Ky Chow

Ying Chow's action-packed sister restaurant Ky Chow is great for lunch serving dishes such as duck with sundried Chinese bayberries. The service is fast.

Cheap, tasty Chinese food in pleasant surrounds

    asar53 recommends this,

There is no shortage of Chinese restaurants on Gouger St and several contend for the title of Chinatown's best, but this is my pick of the lot.

The food is authentic, well priced and tasty. The sublime salt and pepper squid, bayberry duck and shallot pancakes are perennial favourites but you won't go wrong here whatever you order. Service can be a bit patchy but is generally quick and always friendly. You can either BYO wine ($7.50 a bottle) or choose from the well priced drinks list. If you're a beer drinker, go for the Little Creatures Pilsner, a fine Aussie brew that complements the Chinese flavours well.

Ky Chow recently relocated across the road to 27-29 Gouger St and now has more elbow room and a slightly more upmarket ambience. The extra seats mean that crowds don't spill out onto the street quite as much these days, but a booking wouldn't go astray at peak times over the weekend.
