The charming, red-brick Grand Chancellor is not your ordinary top-end hotel. It has chosen to forgo dull, international-brand modernism for some quietly stylish and surprisingly homely touches in the rooms and communal areas.

For some good examples of this, just check out the couches that front the reception area. In the rooms themselves, this individualistic approach can be seen in country-style chairs, snug bedspreads and semi-rustic bureaux and cabinets. As you'd expect in an up-market, inner-city hotel, the rooms also have plenty of space - the spa rooms, with tubs set up in a tiled corner of the room, are particularly good for spreading out. Guests can use a great indoor spa and toast themselves in the relaxed downstairs bar. A buffet breakfast can be added to a good night's sleep for an extra charge. The hotel's main entry is off Gilbert Pl.
